5 Ways you can Use your Anxiety to Further your Business

As a business owner or an entrepreneur, it is quite easy to find yourself constantly worrying about the status of the business. Will that deal fall through?  How can you take the business to a better level and the questions just keep building up?
It is absolutely normal to be concerned about your business, but what is not normal is when you allow this worry to get out of hand, to allow it control you. There will always be ups and downs in business but the way you handle it as well as the lessons you decide to take away from every failure is what determines the real success of your story.
Before we go further, let’s see what anxiety is. Anxiety can be said to be the feeling of unease with something that is usually not in your control, something that hasn’t happened yet or the desire for something to happen. When it comes to your business, it can be a good thing provided that you master and place it under your control.

Below are five ways you can use anxiety to further your business and get the best out of it.

Be Specific
Learning to be specific – that is having a well-thought plan for the specific part of your business that usually makes you anxious can go a long way to help you reduce or eliminate the constant worry that tends to be overwhelming. For example, if you know that getting new customers for your business always makes you anxious, try structuring how best you can achieve that and stick to it.
So let’s say you decided to use Facebook to advertise your business because all your potential customers are concentrated there and so are most of your colleagues. Once you have this sorted out, you don’t have to worry about people telling you about how many customers you are losing by not using Twitter.
You should know you can’t conquer every platform so it is better to concentrate on one and see how far you can go.

There is power in learning to say NO
Sometimes because you really want your business to grow fast you tend to want to make sure you please everyone. The whole responsibility of running the business is on your shoulder and you can’t just stop worrying about whether it will succeed or not.
You get a customer who is not easy to work with and you know the outcome is not going to add anything tangible to the business but you don’t want to get rid of them. So what if one deal goes wrong, it is not the end of the world and you should know that. If something is not important to your business, don’t be afraid to let it go.
This also applies to you doing extra work for a customer for a little less even when you really don’t want to. Your customers will understand when you explain to them as well as respect you more.

Stop aiming for perfection; Give it your best shot instead
You should know that in business, there is always room for improvements, you might spend a lot of time trying to make something perfect only to find out that you could have done better after the product have been launched. Aiming for perfection does not only encourage procrastination, it also prevents you from seeing and appreciating all the efforts you have put into the work.
Know that in life you are constantly learning and when today is not good, you always have tomorrow to revise and implement the solutions from yesterday’s failure. Your business will only grow if you give it your best shot all the time, not when you aim for perfection, as that can make you lose hope easily.

Practise mindfulness
You might be so caught up in trying to meet the final target you have set for yourself, let’s say like reach 1 million followers by the end of the year that you tend to not value what you have achieved so far. You worry about whether you can make it by the time the year end, forgetting about how far you have come.
Ask yourself every morning, what do you need to do today that will take you a step closer to your goal? And by the end of the day, evaluate yourself; check if you actually did what had to be done to take you closer to your goals. If you achieved your goals for that day, then well-done! And if not, you can always correct the mistakes and do better the next day.

Take a break
When everything is not going as planned, take a break, go for a walk or even read a novel. As a business owner you are probably doing more than full-time anyway, so a little you-time won’t hurt anyone. Your business will progress faster if you take time off to calm yourself and return more focused and energised.
Anxiety and business may be a hard combination to manage, but with determination and prioritizing important things over others, you can take your business to a whole new level.
